Oh yes
Got my first iphone 4S in or around 7th/8th grade in 2012. My friend Will was playing this religiously between classes on his. It looked effortless for him. I asked to try and couldn't get past the first few spikes.
It didn't matter, I wanted this game.
Bought the game for I think $1.99 on the app store.
It came with two levels, the original starter level and an Xbox add on level.
I played this original level for hours, days, weeks, and months. I never beat it.
Fast forward to later that summer, and I was down the shore at the beach house of my then friend, Jesse. He too had been gifted an iphone 4S, and he too had this game.
We played religiously the entirety of the vacation. After the beach, we would go to our room and play. Death after death after death.
Attempts? Most likely over 9000.
By the end of the trip, I somehow managed to beat it.
I celebrated for an hour. It was a great feeling.
But then I felt nothing.
It didn't matter though, because when I think back to that vacation and time period, I'm engrossed with a unique and refreshing nostalgic feeling that can never be replicated again. One where the iphone and this mobile game felt so new and fun, as well as life.
After beating the main level, I proceeded to beat the xbox level soon after. It was then that I decided to buy the DLC levels package: Chaoz Fantasy, Heaven, and Phazd.
These were much more difficult than the starter level, yet they were just what I needed. They also contained some of the best musical electronic soundtracks I had ever heard in a game up to this point.
I played the hell out of these as well, some of which took me 3-6 months to complete, although part of me thinks it took a little over a year. Once I completed them all, in I think 2013, it felt good once again, but instead of feeling nothing like i did after completing the starter level, I began to feel a hint of sadness. What was I going to do now? How should I spend my days now that I had beaten everything?
Of course, the newness of the experience died right there, but what I didn't realize was how replayable the levels would be. I would continue playing the same 5 levels for years.
And now over a decade.
Yes, I still have this game on my phone in 2026, after purchasing it roughly 14 years ago. Unfortunately the DLC levels are gone, but I still have the original level. I play it from time to time on airplanes.
Additionally, we were blessed with geometry dash and all its sequels. I thoroughly enjoy those games as well.
But, none of those games come close the The Impossible Game: the game that started it all.
It will always have a special place in my heart. And it will always be my favorite mobile game.
Thanks for the memories.
Hearts in chat.
