Disgustingly underrated

Mario hoops 3 on 3 is disgustingly fun and underrated. I believe it's the only Mario Basketball game besides Mario and Luigi's appearance in one of the early 2k games. From the character selection and team building on the main screen to the sound track, I really don't think it gets enough love. If you've never played this and or have and want some nostalgia just click on the attached trailer/gameplay video - it absolutely bangs. The gameplay is also superb for a handheld device and basketball oriented game. It plays shockingly similar to your classic 2k in terms of ball handling but obviously, there is a bit of fluff. The fluff includes the usage of items sort of like strikers, dunks where the characters literally float in the air, and spaces on the ground where you can dribble on question spaces for coins. The game's story mode is in a form of a tournament brackets, and once you complete, an entire bracket, which consists of 3-4 teams, you move into a more difficult bracket with new stages. In general, Mario Hoops 3-on-3 is just super fun and satisfying to play. Movement wise, you will find yourself addicted to trying to cross up people, slam dunking in their faces, pulling up for a 3 or blocking a shot. It's all just super fun, and like i mentioned in the beginning, it's super impressive for a handheld. I wish this game had more of an online mode to go with it - and or a sequel that could have been on the gamecube. There would have definitely been a small competitive scene for it if this were the case, especially with how smooth this would have felt on the gamecube controllers. Nah like this shit was mad underrated. Maybe one day we'll get a sequel. Fuck remakes.
