A beautiful mess
This title held the live-service looter-shooter genre afloat for almost a decade. Banking off the success of “Destiny”, the second entry had a chronic fluctuating player retention problem that I believe eventually killed the game. Expansions seduced veteran and new players to the franchise. But even the most hardcore players feel that there was a lot left on the table by the end of its run. Bungie seemed to take two steps back whenever they stumbled forward.
Oh…but the stumble. Bungie had a knack for creating experiences in this universe that were perfect for supporting; creativity, community, cooperation, challenge, intrigue, mystery and an overall wonder to almost anything they touched. I may feel scorned in some ways by this franchise but in others I still am in love. Gameplay wise this has Bungie’s trademark world class gunplay and polish. Would do it all over again.
This counts as my Destiny 1 review too lol.
